Hot Water Tank Warranty Check, Victoria

Most hot water tanks manufactured before 2003 have a 6-year warranty against leakage. Most hot water tanks manufactured after 2003 have an 8-year warranty against leakage. If you have extended warranty documentation, your tank may have a longer warranty. Note that the major manufacturers usually only include a 1 to 2-year warranty on other parts.

How to Tell How Old Your Tank Is

If your tank is manufactured by one of the three most common brands in the Greater Victoria area, see our guide below.

  • Rheem/Ruud Hot Water Tank Age: The first two numbers refer to the month of manufacture, and the next two numbers refer to the year. This is followed by a letter and 5 more numbers. For example, serial number 0307B94210 would mean the tank was made in March 2007.
  • AO Smith Water Heater Age: The first four letters, ignoring any letters, will tell you when the tank was manufactured. The first two letters represent the year the tank was built. For example, serial number U0106413635 shows the tank was manufactured in June 2001.
  • State Select Water Heater Age: The first two digits indicate the year. The second two digits are the week of the year. For example, serial number 1318A033639 was built the 18th week of 2013.
  • Whirlpool Water Heater Age Check: The first two digits are the month, and the second two digits are the year. For example, 1204T463208 was manufactured in the 4th week of 2012.
  • Bradford White Water Heater Age: The Bradford White serial number consists of 2 letters followed by 7 numbers. The letters refer to the date of manufacture. The first letter refers to the year, and the second letter refers to the month.

  • Tankless water heaters provide hot water on demand, meaning you never run out. They are also highly energy-efficient because they do not waste energy keeping a large storage tank of water hot all day.
  • Immediately open all windows and doors, evacuate the property, and avoid touching any light switches or electronics. Once you are safely outside, call our emergency line or your local gas provider immediately.
